Things we are getting new translations for and what we really need translated/edited. UPDATED

Updated as of 2023/02/03:
I am not as good at keeping track of things as I use to be so I realized I needed to make a little list here of our progress. This should also help anyone who is interested in translating or editing something.

Finished translations that I need someone to clean and edit the text into. Please don't do these if you don't have really nice skills but feel free to start working if you do. Just send me an email at melorasworld@gmail.com so I can make a note of it here that someone is working on one so it's not getting done twice

  • Hyrule Fantasy children's book
    • I'll try to remember to get these uploaded but otherwise just email me for the files if you want to work on it.
    • Translation: historyofhyrule.blogspot.com/2021/05/
    • Translated by Sergei the Sage, scanned by me but donated from Mases collection (Zelda Dungeon) I need someone who is incrfedibly good at repairing images because I want this to be a top notch job.
  • CYOA: Adventure of Link
Things we really need translated: (that are already scanned)

Japanese to English Translations that are currently in the works:

Being translated into languages other than English:
  • Legend of Zelda/Hyrule Fantasy by Ran Maru
    • English, Spanish, and Russian
  • Link's Awakening one-shot from Corocoro Bessatsu
  • Link's Awakening by Ataru Cagiva
    • Spanish
  • Gamebook: Adventure 13: LoZ an Original Version
    • Apparently it has already been translated into Russian

Being Typeset, no more work needed:

Hyrule Fantasy Board Game, Fully Translated into English, and Playable on Steam

I can't believe I forgot to post about this here back when I posted about it on Twitter.

If you want to play it for free on Tabletop Simulator, find that here!

If you would like to download it to play manually, here's the link to all the files!

If you would like more information about playing this, find all of that in this thread, here.

Update: If you would like to 3d print the Link figures from this board, Keshi Corner has scanned them and has the data you need uploaded. Find it from this link. Or from this file

First, you can probably guess why I've always been on the look out for this: This board game for the original Legend of Zelda, Hyrule Fantasy, has some of the most amazing art. It's basically a crime they didn't make a piece for every enemy in the game. When I was working on the LoZ1 gallery I tried really hard to track it down and, luckily, thanks to Sergei the Sage, I eventually found it. Alberto, who did the original editing and cleaning, was kind enough to send me the cleaned up, high resolution, images. He didn't send me the original scans because the person who originally made them is a collector and didn't want the completely authentic images on the net because they could be used to flood the market by allowing people to make perfect fakes. So we found a perfect middle ground: he sent me the images that already had the text edited out. So much less work for me, not having to clean things myself, and Alberto was a master at the work he did. I haven't added the images to the gallery yet, because the translation project took precedent, but I should be doing that soon.

As far as I can tell, here's where the credit lies. Over at Boardgame Geek, on this thread:

Evan Derrick originally organized the project
Bastian Baum perhaps continued the project
Gliiterberri translated the game
Alberto Vitali did the image cleaning and editing

And a lot of other people helped! It looked like a big group effort that I truly appreciate.

Play newly translated Zelda games that have never been available outside of Japan!

This is really awesome, beyond awesome actually. So in the 80's and 90's there was obviously a lot of Zelda merchandise in Japan that never came out anywhere else. Including some physical games, like board games, and we've never been able to experience them. Until now. A while back my amazing friend, and Zelda collector extraordinaire, linksliltri4ce, and I decided we would pool our resources together and get some stuff done. She scanned some of her rare collection and I edited them to make cleaner versions of the game pieces using the official art gallery I've amassed. Well, now it seems that Steam user Hitotsumami has found, translated, edited, and programmed some of these games via Tabletop Simulator and has uploaded there them free to download. Links below. So what are these games?

Translation of the bonus dice mode of the Barcode Battler Legend of Zelda game. The Barcode Battler itself is not necessary.

This game also has some really great enemy art that Beno donated to the site ages ago but can't be found anywhere else.  Like this piece of Ganon.

Party Joy Guidemaster Series #6 - The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

This is a board game recreating the experience of playing the first half of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. It goes up until the point wherein you reach the portal between Hyrule and the Dark World. However, this is not a mere game. In addition to that, you can use this as a sort of strategy guide for how to play the video game itself.

The game begins from the point where Link has rescued Zelda from her cell in Hyrule Castle and has delivered her to the Sanctuary. To defeat the High Priest Agahnim, who is trying to sacrifice Zelda in order to open the seal to the Golden Land, you must first acquire teh Master Sword. To that end, the priest of the church has instructed you to first go to Kakariko and visit the Elder Sahasrahla. Putting the Sanctuary behind you, you begin your adventure.

Small bonus: There's actually a 3rd game, but it's a really short and simple one:

This comes from a pencil board set with stickers that were cut out and used as tokens.

This is all so cool, I hope you enjoy them!

A small example of the work linksliltri4ce and I did:

Edit: More information and links to other games are in this post: https://historyofhyrule.blogspot.com/2021/10/zelda-game-night-all-non-console-games.html

New English Translation: LttP Manga-short: Quark and the Fairy Queen by Toshihiro Ono

A while back I posted about this super rare one-shot Link to the Past manga that @miloscat found and got online. I cleaned it up a little and with the help of Horseypope they've now translated it into English and gotten the full translation online. So check out their site and find out about it here!

In the meantime, I know it looks like I haven't been doing much but I promise I've been working hard, I can't wait to post more!

UPDATED 2022-06-06. The 60+ Out-of-Print Zelda Publications I'll be Scanning to Preserve

Hey everyone! I'm still looking for people who would be willing to help translate the old Zelda manga and maybe even the Japanese novels. The truth is that it's harder than it looks so, if you're not advanced, it's going to wear on you. But it's tragic some of this hasn't been translated for 35 years now so, if you think you can help, please contact me at melorasworld@gmail.com

So, anyway, I know it looks like I haven't been doing much since the tail end of May 2021 but that's only partially true. In the summer I do take off from civilization to backpack in the wilderness but, in the downtime, I've been connecting with other fans and helping get material to people who need it for their own projects and connecting with people who are helping with some of History of Hyrule's. There are so many amazing people out there that we have a lot to thank for and I can't wait to share more about. I also did a guest spot on Sacred Realms Podcast where we talked about Zelda art, it was so much fun, be sure to check them out. I've also started making more archival scans of all the old Japanese publications.

Here's a list of what I'll be scanning that I'll keep updated! This is DONE!

Other Scans I've made:

Other Guides: I have more than a few I'll be fully scanning but they're last on the list because, besides the art, it's usually just game help information in them. But it would be nice to have them preserved regardless!

This is an example of what I'll be doing when I say archival scan project:

An old 600dpi scan from the site:

New 600dpi scan with pages removed from the binding and a dark backing to prevent image bleed-through:
The binding glue on many of the old books is falling apart, so this isn't particularly painful to do, but the deeper tears near the binding are where it has turned into a concrete resin and absorbed the paper into itself so there's a little bit of patching that needs to be done.

Repaired image:

Further cleaned and almost complete:

Insanely High-Rez Old-School Link Art

This has always been one of my favorite pieces of Link art and thanks to the incredible collector, Art of Nintendo Power on Twitter, we have a high resolution scan of the actual cel. That's right: it's a cel, he owns it now, he scanned it at 1200dpi, and since it's a painting there's no pixilation. It's incredible and I am in heaven. I did a rough clean up job on it and have it uploaded at the flickr gallery in its all its 17,680 x 9900 glory, here.

You could originally see this in Nintendo's Legend of Zelda Tips and Tactics guide, and I use to be responsible for the best image of it online, which is a joke compared to this one. I'm super happy to pass that torch because, seriously, nothing beats this!

Link's Awakening Manga: Super rare and never seen before! (Updated!)

Translated by: Сергей Посниченко Sergei the Sage
Cleaned and Typeset by: DidakosGA

UPDATE 2: Full translation below

Original Post: For the first time ever on the internet: a very rare Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening manga short that was that was just scanned by @randomhoohaas of randomhoohaas.flyingomelette.com & was sent to me by @miloscat. It's 38 pages and is from a fairly obscure Japanese comic periodical, COROCORO BESSATSU, the August 1993 issue.

UPDATE: @sergeithesage sent me this great summary:

Here is brief story of Link's Awakening.
Link defeated 7 monsters and got 7 Siren's instruments, but then received message from Hot Head, saying that mister Tarin is kidnapped and ransom is 7 instruments. Link said Marin nothing, took his trophies to Turtle Rock and gave to Hot Head. Hot Head released Tarin but warned Link in a Godfather-like manner, that a new attempt to wake Fish of Wind would mean the end of life for Tarin and Marin.

Link and Tarin decided to keep all this in secret from Marin, but Link behaved himself very strange, and Marin asked Tarin what is wrong. Tarin said nothing, but thought, and Marin read his thoughts (after all it's a comics for elementary school children). So Marin left note and went for Hot Head's den to bring instruments back. Link and Tarin read her note and hurried to save poor girl, but it was late - Hot Head captured Marin.

Link tried to attack Hot Head, but evil monster told him, that waking Fish of Winds means deleting all this world including Marin and Tarin. His evil words made Link to hesitate, Link's arm lacked strength, and so Hot Head was about to kill Link. In last moment Link remembered Zelda, it gave him some strength but not enough. Hot Head need only one final blow to finish Link off, but in last moment Tarin appeared with fairy. Fairy fully recovered Link, and he destroyed Hot Head and rescued Marin.

The last scene. Marin tells Link to go and wake up Fish of Wind. And adds, that she believes all be OK, because Link is true hero with kind heart.

Here's a direct translation of this page that he provided:

Link: One more – and I have all eight!
Marin: Are you not afraid of monsters?
Link: I have many too many dreams and to-do things.
Link: And can’t waste my time here! (It leaves no place for doubts?)

Update: Here's a full translation into English thanks to Сергей Посниченко aka
